Treatment Areas for Xeomin

Bunny lines on the sides of the nose appear when you scrunch or laugh. A few units of Xeomin along the nasalis muscle smooth these creases.

Lip flip treatments use a small amount of Xeomin just above the upper lip border to relax the orbicularis oris muscle and allow the upper lip to gently roll outward, creating the appearance of a fuller lip without filler.

How a Xeomin Treatment Works

Each appointment takes 15 to 30 minutes. Dr. Eisenstat cleans the treatment area, applies a topical numbing agent if you prefer, and uses a fine needle to inject small amounts of Xeomin into the target muscles. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch at each injection point.

You can return to your normal routine right after treatment. Dr. Eisenstat recommends avoiding strenuous exercise, lying flat, or rubbing the treated areas for four to six hours after your appointment.

Initial results appear within three to five days, and full smoothing sets in at about two weeks. Results last three to six months, depending on the area treated, the number of units placed, and your individual metabolism. Most patients schedule maintenance treatments two to three times per year.

Xeomin vs. Botox vs. Dysport: How They Compare

All three products are botulinum toxin type A injectables. They share the same mechanism of action, treat the same areas, and have comparable safety profiles. The differences come down to formulation, onset speed, and spread pattern.

Formulation: Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) and Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) both contain complexing proteins surrounding the active neurotoxin molecule. Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is purified to remove these proteins entirely. All three are FDA-approved, and the presence or absence of complexing proteins does not change how the product works once it binds to the nerve receptor.

Onset: Dysport tends to show visible results within two to three days for many patients. Xeomin and Botox both take roughly three to five days for initial smoothing, with full results at two weeks across all three.

Spread: Dysport has a thinner consistency and spreads more across a treatment zone, which can be an advantage for large flat areas like the forehead. Xeomin and Botox stay closer to the injection site, which gives the injector more precision in smaller, tighter areas like crow’s feet and the glabella.

Duration: All three products last approximately three to six months. Individual results vary based on the treatment area, dosage, and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. No neuromodulator has been proven to last significantly longer than the others at equivalent doses.

Dosing: Botox and Xeomin use the same unit-to-unit dosing (20 units of Xeomin is equivalent to 20 units of Botox). Dysport uses a different unit measurement, so the numbers are higher (roughly 2.5 to 3 Dysport units per 1 Botox/Xeomin unit), but the cost and effect are comparable when dosed correctly.
