What is Semaglutide/Tirzepatide and how can it help weight loss?

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are GLP-1 receptor agonists, and when administered as an injection, help regulate appetite and food intake.

They work by increasing insulin production and lowering glucagon secretion as well as targeting areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake.

The medication is specifically designed to assist adults with obesity or those who are overweight in their weight management journey.

FAQs

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide can have the following effects:

  • Delays how quickly our stomachs digest food, which leads to a feeling of fullness with smaller meal sizes.
  • Slows intestinal motility so you will feel fuller longer after meals. Hence, reducing appetite.
  • Lowers blood sugars, in part by reducing the production of sugar in the liver.
  • Stimulates insulin secretion by pancreas.
  • Decreases inflammation throughout the body, which leads to Adiponectin release and fat lipolysis.

It can be the most effective part of the weight loss program, but to achieve optimal results the program should also include exercise, behavioral eating changes, and dietary adjustments that include calorie reduction.

If you are healthy and not pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, or taking any medications that can have an adverse effect, or do not have a known allergy to any of the ingredients in Semaglutide and Tirzepatide; you should be able to use the medication safely.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide injections are contraindicated in those who:

  • are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • have ever had Medullary Thyroid Cancer (MTC), or family history of MTC.
  • have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome type 2
  • have ever had a serious allergic reaction to Semaglutide or Tirzepatide or any of the ingredients in Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, including compound formulations, which may include: vitamin b12 and/or vitamin b6

  • have, or have had, depression, mental health issues, and/or suicidal thoughts

Tirzepatide and Semaglutide are both medications used to treat type 2 diabetes, but they belong to different classes. Tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, while Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Tirzepatide’s dual action may provide additional benefits in terms of glucose control and weight reduction compared to Semaglutide. However, individual responses to these medications can vary, and it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are usually injected once a week. The medication is received in a pre-filled syringe and is self-administered under the skin of your stomach or thigh. Your healthcare provider will guide you on the proper technique.

Line Eraser MD offers in person training or training via the video application in our patient portal, but it is important to keep following these 12 important steps:

Before the Injection

Step 1– Assemble Supplies: including the syringe containing the medication, and an alcohol swab.

Step 2– Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and dry them well.

Step 3– Choose a location on your stomach or thigh for the injection. A stomach injection should be administered at least two inches away from your navel (belly button), and injection sites should be alternated between either side of the stomach.

Step 4– Use alcohol swab to clean the injection site, and let the skin dry.

Step 5– Remove the cap off the needle.

Injection Process

Step 1– Hold the syringe like you hold a pen close to the site, with your fingers off the plunger.

Step 2– Pinch a fold of skin between your thumb and fingers at the desired injection site with your non-dominant hand to create a firm surface.

Step 3– Insert the needle into the injection site at a 90-degree angle, until the needle is buried and no longer visible to you.

Step 4– While you are still pinching the injection site, use a slow and constant pressure to push down the plunger with your index finger until the plunger reaches the bottom.

After the Injection

Step 1– Gently pull the syringe out at the same angle of insertion.

Step 2– Release the skin fold at the injection site.

Step 3– Cap the needle and discard of the syringe in a sharps container.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide may start to show noticeable effects on weight loss within a few weeks of regular use. However, individual responses may vary. It’s essential to stay committed to healthy eating habits and physical activity, to achieve the best and sustainable weight loss results.

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide is not a universal solution for everyone, but during clinical studies, more than half of the participants experienced significant weight loss of approximately 15% of their body weight. For the best results, this treatment is most effective with healthy lifestyle changes.

Insurance companies may provide coverage for Semaglutide or Tirzepatide when it is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, coverage for Semaglutide or Tirzepatide as a weight loss medication is not typical. However, it’s always best to check with your insurance provider.
